El pasado 15 de junio, fue una mañana muy emocionante por la votación en la Comisión de Medio Ambiente del Parlamento Europeo sobre la Ley de Restauración de la Naturaleza. Con 44 votos a favor y 44 votos en contra, la conclusión ha sido que la comisión apoya el proyecto de ley. Previamente, otras dos comisiones del Parlamento Europeo, la de Agricultura y la de Pesca, votaron en contra. El resultado de la votación de esta mañana en la Comisión de Medio Ambiente ha sido muy importante como indicador del apoyo y del proceso posterior de toma de decisiones. Sigue siendo complejo y apasionante lo que ocurrirá con la Ley de Restauración de la Naturaleza en las próximas semanas. La votación plenaria del Parlamento Europeo está prevista para julio. El dictamen del Consejo Europeo podría llegar el próximo martes.

ELCA, junto con los socios de la SoGreen Aliance, sigue estos acontecimientos con gran interés. La Ley de Restauración de la Naturaleza, cuyo objetivo es proteger y mejorar la biodiversidad, se centra también en medidas dentro del ámbito urbano. En la propuesta original de la Comisión Europea figuran, entre otros, los objetivos de no pérdida neta de espacios verdes en las zonas urbanas de aquí a 2030 y de crecimiento del 5% de los espacios verdes y del 10% de las copas de los árboles de aquí a 2050. Estamos muy entusiasmados con estos objetivos y ya hemos expresado nuestro apoyo a la Comisión Europea y al Parlamento Europeo. Esperemos que, a pesar de la fuerte oposición, la ley se apruebe con objetivos algo claros para el área urbana. Seguiremos de cerca este asunto y les mantendremos informados.

It has been a very exciting morning today because of the voting in the Environmental Committee of the European Parliament about the Nature Restoration Law. With 44 votes in favour and 44 votes against, the conclusion was that the committee supports the draft of the law. Prior two other committees within the European Parliament, namely the Committee for Agriculture and the Committee for Fishery, voted against. The outcome of the voting in the Environmental Committee this morning was very important as an indicator of the support and further process of decision making. It remains complex and exciting what will happen with the Nature Restoration Law in the coming weeks. The plenary vote of the European Parliament is expected in July. The opinion of the European Council might come next Tuesday.

ELCA, together with the partners of the SoGreen Aliance, is following these developments with great interest. The Nature Restoration Law, which aims to protect and enhance biodiversity, focuses also on measures within the urban area. In the original proposal of the European Commission, there are amongst others targets about a no net loss of green spaces in urban areas by 2030 and a growth of 5% green spaces and 10% tree canopy by 2050. We are very enthusiastic about these aims and expressed our support already to the European Commission and the European Parliament. Hopefully, despite the heavy opposition, the law will be adopted with somehow clear targets for the urban area. We will follow this and keep you informed.
